Temple head football coach Scott Stewart confirmed Thursday that his Wildcats' lone preseason scrimmage will be against former district rival College Station on Thursday, Sept. 17 at Wildcat Stadium. The varsity scrimmage is scheduled for 7 p.m., preceded by the teams' sub-varsity scrimmage at 5.
The Wildcats also met the Cougars in 2018 and 2019 scrimmages in Temple and College Station, respectively. Temple originally planned to also scrimmage at Waco this year, but that was before the regular-season schedule was pushed back four weeks because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Temple's regular-season opener is against Longview on Friday, Sept. 25 at 8 p.m. at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. That will be a rematch of Longview's 41-10 win over Temple in a Class 6A Division II bi-district playoff game last Nov. 15 at Lobo Stadium.
Texas Football magazine has Longview at No. 3 in its preseason 5A Division I state rankings. Temple, seeking its eighth consecutive playoff berth, was not included among 6A's top 50 teams in Texas Football's preseason state rankings.
